Our Beers

Welcome to Montello Brewing Company. We take pride in the rich history of the Montello area and Wisconsin traditions. We reflect this pride in our brews that are listed below.

Old Packwaukee Pilsner (ABV: 5.9%)

Named after the local town of Packwaukee. Light and crisp, with a little hoppy finish. Old Packwaukee is brewed in the Czech Pilsner style.

Grant’s Tomb Porter (ABV: 7.2%)

Ulysses S. Grant, Civil War general, and the 18th president of the United States is buried in a sarcophagus made of Montello Granite. Strong and Smooth. This porter has notes of coffee and chocolate, with a mild bitter finish.

OLD 58 Black Irish Ale (ABV: 5.4%)

You can’t get more Wisconsin than the Green Bay Packers. Dan Currie (Uncle of one of the MBC founders) played for the Pakcers in the Lombardi era and wore #58. This Black Irish Ale has a complex caramel and dark roasted malt flavor with a slightly bitter finish.

Red Fox Scotch Ale (ABV: 5.9%)

This scotch ale is named for the Fox River that runs through the town and was a waterway for trappers and explorers. Red Fox is a traditional scotch ale, full-bodied caramel, and malt flavor, with a mildly hoppy finish and a hint of spice.

P-LINE Vanilla Porter (ABV: 5.6%)

The P-Line train used to run from Portage. WI to Stevens Point, WI, and ran through downtown Montello. This variation on our Grant’s Tomb Porter adds a bit of vanilla for a strong but sweet finish.

Lighting Strike IPA (ABV: 5.6%)

This India Pale Ale is named after the mammoth Montello cottonwood tree that was officially the “largest tree in Wisconsin” until it was struck by lightning in the 1970s. This very balanced IPA is slightly hazy with citrus hop notes.

Umm Blonde Ale (ABV: 5.6%)

People often say “umm…” when asked what beer they want, so this one is always the right call. Umm Blonde Ale is an easy-drinking beer, smooth with the hint of honey.

Hoppatoppamie “PMA” (ABV: 5.4%)

The Montello variation on an APA is named for its hops, some of which are procured locally. This “Pale Montello Ale” is “subtly complex” with a full-bodied caramel malt flavor and a mildly hoppy finish.

Weed Cutter Summer Wheat (ABV: 5.7%)

This summer brew is named after the ever-growing vegetation that grows on Buffalo Lake and the machines that work so hard to clean it. Buffalo Lake served as a waterway for trappers and explorers alike. Weed Cutter Wheat has a dry hazy sweetness, with a hit of citrus.
